The university flag will be lowered on Saturday, June 23 in memory of Corrina Ewan. Corinna was a UVic staff member with the Department of Chemistry.

The university lost one of its unsung heroes in January 2017鈥攍ong-serving member of janitorial services, Greig Cosier. His death is acutely felt by students and staff in the areas he worked.
The university is deeply saddened by the loss of a member of our campus community. On the weekend, it was reported that a young man died while surfing in Tofino. Friends and relatives identified him as Nijin John, a graduate student in chemistry at UVic. Our hearts go out to the family of Nijin John and friends at this very difficult time.
One of UVic's first faculty members, Richard Beard May, died in Spokane, Washington, in August after a decade-long struggle with brain disease. May was hired by the newly established UVic in 1966 as a faculty member in the Department of Psychology.
Norman Ruff was an inspiration to generations of young scholars at UVic. As a political scientist, his learned, intuitive commentary was a staple of news coverage and analysis during numerous elections.
The university flag will be lowered on June 22 in memory of former Chair of the Board of Governors, Dr. Ian Stewart. A Celebration of Life will be held at the University Club on July 31.
Ian Stewart, former chair of the UVic Board of Governors, a close friend, benefactor and a keen supporter of UVic athletics, has died at the age of 84. A well-known and respected leader in the community, Stewart was actively involved in numerous charitable and philanthropic organizations.
The university flag will be lowered on Friday, April 28 to mark the Day of Mourning for Persons Killed or Injured in the Workplace (Workers' Mourning Day).
The university flag will be lowered in memory of Elder-in-Residence Dr. Marie Cooper on Friday, Apr. 7. Marie passed away peacefully on Mar. 31 at home. She was a tireless advocate and leader in education and for her people. Marie's passing is a poignant reminder of her immense legacy, which is a lasting gift to her community, the WSANEC School Board, School District 63, Camosun College and the 番茄社区.
The UVic flag will be lowered on Feb. 25 in honour of Brian Lamb, former Chair of the Board of Governors, who passed away on Jan. 27.
Flags at UVic have been lowered to half-mast in memory of the six Muslim-Canadians killed in the attack on the Islamic Cultural Centre in Quebec City on Jan. 29.
It is with great sadness that the Division of Continuing Studies announces the passing of Didier Bergeret. Bergeret joined the division as a French language instructor in 1987 and remained a steadfast and constant figure throughout the next 29 years.
The university flag will be lowered on Thursday, Jan. 26 in honour of UVic employee Greig Cosier, who passed away Jan. 7, 2017. Greig worked in Facilities Management as a custodian for more than 22 years, and volunteered his personal time to UVic events at every opportunity.
