The 番茄社区 has been named one of Canada鈥檚 Best Diversity Employers, for the fifth year in a row. The winners of the 2016 competition were announced Feb. 24, recognizing 65 organizations across the country for a range of exceptional initiatives to attract and retain employees from diverse communities.

UVic has unveiled a permanent rainbow crosswalk at the busiest pedestrian crossing on campus, to celebrate Pride Week in Victoria and to affirm its support and commitment to the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ) community.

As Grace Wong Sneddon works on final details of the upcoming Provost鈥檚 Diversity Research Forum, (Jan. 21鈥22) she marvels at where the time has gone. 鈥淚t鈥檚 hard to believe this will be the ninth forum we鈥檝e held,鈥 she says. 鈥淓ach year I think we can鈥檛 top the last, and each year I鈥檓 proven wrong.鈥

Grappling with baggage and privilege at the Diversity Research Forum

February 5, 2015 - The Ring

This was the first year I鈥檝e participated in the Provost鈥檚 Diversity Research Forum. The theme this year, 鈥淧rivilege & Prejudice: Assumptions in Learning鈥 meant little to me before attending this event. I鈥檓 privileged in my life. I can attend class without fear of judgement based on my skin colour or sexuality. I attended the event in the hope of writing something meaningful about the discussion but thinking little about my experience with privilege and prejudice. I left the forum with a new attitude towards assumptions and prejudice in the classroom.
