The "on the Verge" writing contest showcases and celebrates emerging UVic student voices. The 2017-2018 theme was HOME. Rachel Lallouz, Kate Fry, Nicholas Guerreiro and Chris Tse all took home first place prizes of $250.

In a study that spans Canada's Pacific Coast, UVic researchers have confirmed that human disturbance of seagrass meadows results in lower fish diversity. While human activity is known to impact a variety of ecosystems, the effect of human activity on coastal biodiversity is largely unknown. Coastal seagrass meadows are important nursery grounds for commercial and ecologically significant fish species.

Statement about anti-Semitic posters
On Oct. 18, Campus Security Services was informed that offensive posters were found displayed on several bulletin boards in the Cornett Building. Officers responded at once and found that students and a teaching assistant had already removed the posters, which were anti-Semitic.
