CSPT program requirements
In general, CSPT students must meet the core graduating requirements of their own department, as well as the specific requirements of the CSPT program:
(a) 3 units of CSPT courses including and one of either or
Note: With permission of the CSPT director, CSPT credit may be granted for a graduate theory seminar taught by a CSPT faculty member in a department different from the student’s own.
(b) An approved thesis which meets the requirements of both the CSPT program and the home department.
Composition of Supervisory Committee
CSPT students are required to have a CSPT Faculty as (Co-)Supervisor and at least two CSPT Faculty in their Supervisory Committee. At least one CSPT Faculty in the student’s Supervisory Committee must be from outside the student’s home department.
Note: The topic of the student’s thesis must be within the field of cultural, social, and political thought.
Length of MA program
The length of a CSPT MA program depends on the department, but it usually takes about 2-2.5 years.
Individual department requirements
Anthropology
Students wishing to pursue a Master's with a CSPT option must complete a minimum of 9.0 units of course work and a 7.5-unit thesis.
(a) Students must complete and (3.0 units)
(b) two of , , or (3.0 units)
(c) and (1.5 units)
(d) and either CSPT or (1.5 units).
(e) Students must also complete a thesis proposal ()
(f) and an MA Thesis worth 7.5 units (). The topic must be within the field of CSPT.
At least two members of the supervisory committee must be drawn from the faculty members affiliated with the CSPT program. At least one CSPT faculty member on the student's supervisory committee must be from outside the student's home department.
English
(a) 1.5 units of ENSH 500
(b) 3.0 units of English Graduate courses
(c) 1.5 units of (d) 1.5 unit other CSPT course at the level
(e) 7.5 units of ENSH 599 (thesis) in the field of CSPT
The English (CSPT) MA program takes approximately 1.5 to 2 years to complete, but may be completed in 1 year, depending on the student's background.

Environmental Studies

(d) A thesis worth from 7.5 units, on an approved topic within the field of cultural, social and political thought, under the direction of a supervisory committee including at least two participating CSPT faculty members to a total of 18 units for the program as a whole including the thesis and CSPT course requirements.
French
Students wishing to pursue a Master's with a CSPT concentration must complete a minimum of 7.5 units of course work and a 7.5-unit thesis as follows:
(a) (1.5 units)
(b) Two additional FRAN courses at the graduate level (3 units)
(c) (1.5 units)
(c) Either or (1.5 units)
(d) (7.5 units). The thesis topic must be within the field of CSPT and the thesis must be written in French.

Students wishing to pursue a Master's with a CSPT option must complete a minimum of 7.5 units of course work and a 7.5-unit thesis as follows:

(c) One additional GMST or SLST course at the graduate level (1.5 units)
(d) (1.5 units)
(e) Either or (1.5 units)
(f) or (7.5 units). The thesis topic must be within the field of CSPT and written in English.

The Political Science (CSPT) MA program takes approximately 2 years to complete.

(a) Master’s students must complete 7.5 units of course work.
(b) Within, or in addition to the 7.5 units of course work, they must complete two graduate seminars (3.0 units).
At least 12 of the 15 units must be drawn from Sociology listings in the calendar.

(c) Master’s students are required to demonstrate competence in both sociological theory ( or ) and method ( and ).

Individual Interdisciplinary
To complete the CSPT program in the Individual Interdisciplinary program a student must complete:
(a)

(c) A thesis worth from 6 to 9 units, on an approved topic within the field of cultural, social and political thought, under the direction of a supervisory committee including at least two participating CSPT faculty members
(d) 3 to 6 units of other courses at the graduate level approved by the CSPT Program Director and the Interdisciplinary Special Arrangements 番茄社区 Committee, to a total of 15 units for the program as a whole including the thesis and CSPT course requirements
