I am a historian by training and inclination.  My work explored the intersections between the rise of the anti-cruelty to animals movement (and child protection) with the disappearance of the buffalo herds.  Bridging these diverse developments illuminated the history and contours of humanitarianism in the age of capitalist and colonial expansion. Since completing my PhD in 2007, I have devoted myself to teaching. I bring years of dedicated study about our society to my pedagogical practice and I offer it as a gift to my students.
