I received my Ph.D. in 2002 from the University of California, Irvine, where I studied with the late Wolfgang Iser. My dissertation, "The Origin and Function of the Aesthetic Sign," explored some of the recent developments in cognitive science and evolutionary anthropology, in particular, the work of Terrence Deacon, which I attempted to link to a general theory of fiction. I taught for five years at the University of British Columbia before coming to the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø in 2007 to teach courses on Shakespeare and Renaissance drama.
