Place and knowing
I continue to explore links between Place, Aesthetics and Epistemology. I have completed two studies funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada; one examined how space is used in public secondary schools and implications for policies and practice regarding equitable use of school space; another explored approaches to mapping place so that links between people and places are more evident. Both studies used photographic methods to explore how where we are influences who we are.
I teach courses in Community & Culture, Curriculum Theory, and Writing as Research. In all courses I incorporate image-based aspects in assignments.
I am currently serving as Associate Dean, Administration for the Faculty of Education here at UVic. I served as the Faculty Research Community Co-ordinator for the Faculty of Education at UVic.
I was an Associate Professor at the University of Regina for 8 years before beginning my tenure here at UVic. I served as the Education Research Domain Leader for 5 Prairie Universities affiliated with the Prairie Centre of Excellence for Research on Immigration and Integration.
