SEOS has pioneered, in Canada, the establishment of a research focus in Earth System Science. While our expertise can be categorized within the core disciplines of geology, geochemistry, geophysics, oceanography and atmospheric science, our research strength lies in our interdisciplinary approach in studying the Earth and its Environment.

SEOS faculty and students investigate the principal cycles and interactions between ancient and modern Earth systems of core-mantle, lithosphere, ocean, atmosphere, and biosphere, centred around these interrelated themes:
