Witson is currently a Predoctoral Fellow in the Department of Econometrics, Statistics and Applied Economics, Public Policy Unit, at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Barcelona. His research is funded by a scholarship from AGAUR-FI ajuts Joan Oró of the Secretariat of Universities and Research of the Department of Research and Universities of the Generalitat of Catalonia and the European Social Plus Fund. His primary research interests lie in the interactions between energy and climate policies, focusing on their effectiveness, distributional impacts, and lobbying effects, employing causal inference methods.
Currently, he is a visiting researcher at the ·¬ÇÑÉçÇø’s School of Public Administration and Institute for Integrated Energy Systems (IESVic), working with Prof. Katya Rhodes. Their research evaluates the heterogeneous impacts of carbon rebates on household spending across Canada, analyzing the diverse provincial emissions pricing strategies and revenue redistribution using confidential household spending data.
Previously, Witson served as an Associate Lecturer at the University of Barcelona, contributing to research initiatives with the Observatory of Analysis and Evaluation of Public Policies, the Research Group on Governments and Markets, and the Bosch and Gimpera Foundation. He has over 17 years of experience in the private sector, specializing in economic analysis, regulatory frameworks, and financial systems, particularly within the energy, mining, transportation, and hydrocarbons industries.
