I joined the Faculty of Law as assistant professor in 1980 and was promoted to professor in 1993. From 1977 to 1979, I was a part-time tutor at Victoria University of Wellington, and a Teaching Fellow at the University of Illinois from 1979 to 1980. I was co-director of the International Intellectual Property Summer Program from 2002-2007. From 2008 to 2018 I was a member of the Board of the British Columbia Law Institute (BCLI) and was elected an Emeritus Member of the Institute in 2018. I currently teach Property, Intellectual Property, Private International Law (Conflict of Laws), Managing Intellectual Property, Telecommunications, and Internet-related law.
My research interests include intellectual property, cultural property, technology, telecommunications, private international law (conflict of laws), and Asia-Pacific issues. I have published extensively and have organized several international conferences and seminars. In 2011 my book Canadian Telecommunications Law: Dimensions in a Digital Age was published by Irwin Law, Toronto.
