Core courses

The field of Indigenous studies has emerged as an independent discipline with its own pedagogical, methodological, and theoretical approaches centred on Indigenous ways of knowing, being, teaching and learning.

Disciplinary areas of specialization in Indigenous studies give students a strong, comprehensive grounding in this disciplinary knowledge. As such, the program offers a number of Indigenous studies courses at both the lower- and upper-level.

The Indigenous Studies major provides students with a broad, interdisciplinary view of important issues in the historical, political, social, and cultural dimensions of the lived experiences of Indigenous people in Canada.

Please see the Indigenous Studies page in the Academic Calendar for details. Please note: if you wish to take a course for which you do not have the pre-requisites, please start by reviewing this form and emailing the instructor of the course.
