UVic ECS is honoured to host a presentation by CSA astronaut Dr. Jenni Gibbons

Join us on November 12 thfor an inspiring talk on the future of space exploration! Selected as an astronaut candidate by the Canadian Space Agency (CSA) in 2017, Dr. Gibbons became an official astronaut in 2020and has since played a pivotal role in NASA's missions, including serving as capcom during critical operations. Prior to joining the CSA, Dr. Gibbons worked as an assistant professor in combustion atthe Department of Engineering at the University of Cambridge. Through her study of turbulent combustion, fuel characteristics, and gas turbine engines, she worked to reduce harmful pollutantsassociated with power generation gas turbines .She is currently focused on lunar exploration as she trains for the Artemis II mission—the first crewed mission around the Moon in over 50 years. As a backup crew member, she's not onlypreparing for this historic journey but also working to define and validate crew training requirements for future Moon missions.
