MA Practicum
Practice experience is essential to the master's program; students are required to complete a practicum placement approved in writing by the graduate practicum coordinator. A wide range of settings and programs are suitable, and selection should be madde in consultation with the practicum coordinator. Individual students are responsible for all related practicum costs, including travel, criminal records checks, telephone, accomodation and other costs.
As outlined in the course requirements, MA students must complete a practicum. The minimum number of practicum hours for CYC 553 is 200. It is expected that a minimum of 15 hours will be spent in direct (individual or group) supervision with the field site supervisor.
Participation in the Co-operative Education program - which enables students to acquire knowledge, practical skills for employment, and workplace experience - is optional for Master's students. Master's students complete two work terms (a work term consists of four months of full-time, paid employment). Students require permission from the academic adviser and graduate adviser, as well as the Co-op co-ordinator, to participate in the Co-op program. Interested students should contact the Co-op office early in their first term. Students are also referred to General Regulations: Graduate Co-op.
