Film Studies at UVic
Since the early 20th century, film has grown from a sideshow novelty into an international visual language. The relationship of filmmakers to global society is constantly changing as technology becomes more accessible and both filmmaking and film distribution become more user-friendly.
There's never been a better time to study film: the more you understand movies, the more you understand the world.
For more than 20 years now, UVic’s Film Studies program has been focused on the study of movies from both a theoretical and international perspective.
We also offer film production courses—assisted by the equiment in our well-stocked Digital Media Lab—where students have created a series of short films that have screened and won awards at festivals off-campus.
We also have specialists in the craft of screenwriting, film scoring and sound design ready to help you make the film you want.
Our Film Studies program offers a solid combination of lectures, screenings, writing and hands-on production work. There's never been a better time to learn more about this growing field of research and creative activity.
