WSÁNEĆ School Board – Diploma in Indigenous Language Revitalization W̱,SENĆOŦEN IST

The W̱,SENĆOŦEN IST Diploma in Indigenous Language Revitalization is a two-year program to build language proficiency, as well as teaching and learning skills to effectively pass on the SENĆOŦEN language to others.  The program prepares language immersion teachers and SENĆOŦEN teaching assistants to teach in the local SENĆOŦEN LE,NOṈET SCUL,ÁUTW̱ - SENĆOŦEN Survival School and other community locations.

Some students will complete their Diploma in Indigenous Language Revitalization and continue with a degree program at UVic; possibly the Bachelor of Education (BEDLIR) in Indigenous Language Revitalization.  They would require a few more pre-requisites first, however, if they want to carry on to the BEDILR.

This program is designed to be culturally relevant with as much experiential learning as possible. Students spend a good amount of time in the LE,NOṈET SCUL,ÁUTW̱ program, and have a course each year that is mostly land-based. The W̱,SENĆOŦEN IST cohort is comprised mostly of students from the T’sartlip, Tsawout, Tseycum, Pauquachin, and Esquimalt First Nations. Classes take place in the W̱SÁNEĆ Adult Centre and generally run Monday to Friday.

Dehcho Divisional Education Council – Diploma in Indigenous Language Revitalization Dene Zhatie

The Dehcho Diploma in Indigenous Language Revitalization was a two-year program focusing on building language proficency and language teaching and learning skills.  The program goals were to prepare language immersion teachers of Dene Zhatıé to teach in local schools, or work in local contexts.

Some students completed their Diploma in Indigenous Language Revitalization and immediately seek language related work (likely teaching) in Fort Simpson and Fort Providence (located in the North West Territories along the McKenzie River, which is the Dehcho). Others continued on to complete the Bachelor of Education (BEDLIR) in Indigenous Language Revitalization, and so some of the pre-requisites for the BEDILR are built into the Diploma.

University of Saskatchewan – Masters of Indigenous Language Revitalization
