Virag Mishra is a doctoral student in the Dept. of Mechanical Engg. His domain of research is analysis of offshore wave energy converters using numerical modelling with focus on coupled fluid structure interaction.

As a member of The Pacific Regional Institute for Marine Energy Discovery (PRIMED) , Virag focuses on the application of computational fluid dynamics and system identification techniques for analysis of Wave energy Convertors developed by partner industrial members.

Virag completed his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering in 2005. He joined the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras for his M.S. (by Research) in application of CFD to underwater vehicles. The primary focus of his master’s dissertation was evaluation of performance of various nonlinear eddy viscosity turbulence models and CFD calculation of added mass coefficients for various underwater vehicles.

From 2009-2013, Virag, has worked in automotive industry as CFD Engineer in Mindware Engineering Pvt. Ltd. (currently known as ESI group) and TATA Motors.  His job profile involved providing solution to various problems pertaining to fluid flow and design aspects of automobile like climate control, defrost, aiming, underhood flow and thermal management, aerodynamics and aero acoustics. At TATA Motors Virag also gained experience in design of amphibious vehicles and water jet propulsion system.
