2014 International Education Week: Nov. 3-9

Join UVic's International Education Week, Nov. 3 - 9. Find out about international opportunities, hear stories of international experiences and meet some of our international students and researchers from around the globe. Highlights of the week include the International Opportunities Fair for students who want to learn about studying abroad, and a screening of The Dialogue, a documentary that explores the elements of meaningful intercultural dialogue and cultural identity.

2013 Premier鈥檚 International Scholarships

October 2, 2013 - The Ring

Three UVic students are among 20 BC recipients of premier鈥檚 scholarships for study abroad. Carolyn Tsao (economics/mathematics), Ryan Abbott (Hispanic studies), and Victoria More (law) will receive between $6,000 and $10,000 each in Premier鈥檚 International Scholarships from the Irving K. Barber British Columbia Scholarship Society to support their enrolment in overseas programs.

Engagement: the key to a full student experience

It can take Anas Cheema an hour to walk across campus 鈥 the 22-year-old economics student seems to know every second person and has a friendly greeting for them all. It wasn鈥檛 always this way for Cheema, who came to UVic in 2011, not knowing anyone. The international student from Pakistan spent his first few months on campus feeling lonely, isolated and stressed.

Monica Chueke spreads UVic's fame

April 4, 2013 - The Ring

The English Language Centre鈥檚 Brazilian Liaison Officer, Monica Chueke, put UVic on the map during the recent 鈥淓duExpo Brazil鈥 in Sao Paulo鈥攁 weekend event in which exhibitors from 25 countries promoted study abroad opportunities to over 30,000 visitors. Monica has been a tireless ambassador for UVic for many years, so when she noticed news crews from Rede Globo and TV Bandeirantes setting up their cameras, she made sure that studying in Canada鈥攁t UVic鈥攚as the focus of their story. The primetime news coverage featured interviews with Monica, UVic alumni and prospective students; according to local sources, a commercial spot of a similar length would have cost over $1 million USD. Monica returns to Victoria in July to assist with ELC Marketing projects.
