Surfrider UVic drives switch to reusable to-go cups

The 番茄社区 (UVic) has launched an innovative pilot project that could help redefine how the campus community consumes beverages on the go. The collaborative project, led by the Surfrider UVic student club and supported by University Food Services and the Office of Campus Planning and Sustainability, introduces reusable beverage cups from Reusables.com at two cafes on campus.

Massive volcanic carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions contributing to an extreme global ocean deoxygenation event over 120 million years ago has modern day implications for understanding a climate warming 鈥渢ipping point,鈥 according to new research published in Nature this week, led by a scientist at Ocean Networks Canada, a UVic initiative.

Ocean Networks Canada, a 番茄社区 initiative, welcomes today鈥檚 announcement of the new marine protected area (MPA) Tang.散wan 鈥 岣膷x史iqak 鈥 Tsig瘫is (ThT) by the Haida Nation, Nuu-chah-nulth Tribal Council, Pacheedaht First Nation, Quatsino First Nation, and the Government of Canada.

Marine fossil record reveals climate change insights

As ocean temperatures continue to rise due to climate change, marine plankton may be the newest candidate to act as an oceanic early alert system. According to a new Nature paper from UVic micropaleontologist Andy Fraass, and a team of international collaborators at the University of Bristol and Harvard University, an analysis of the fossil record shows that changes to community structure take place long before mass extinction occurs.
