UVic-led project offers steps to repair Canada鈥檚 failing alcohol policy

News of alcohol鈥檚 harms and costs has dominated headlines post-COVID. The Canadian Alcohol Policy Evaluation (CAPE) Project, led by UVic鈥檚 Canadian Institute for Substance Use Research (CISUR), brought together researchers from institutions across Canada to evaluate alcohol control policies federally and in all 13 provinces and territories. Today, they release their results alongside evidence-based solutions to improve health and well-being.

UVic adds billions to provincial economy, benefits extend throughout society

The 番茄社区鈥檚 activities, students and alumni help generate $3.3 billion to BC鈥檚 economy and overall prosperity, an independent study and analysis has determined. The independent report by Emsi Burning Glass, released today, indicates that UVic鈥檚 total impact in BC supported 40,595 jobs. The economic impact for Greater Victoria is $1.8 billion, or one of out of every nine jobs.
