Recognized by Status of Women Canada for her work in gender equality, Dr. Cecilia Benoit has devoted 25 years as a researcher to advancing the social rights of marginalized populations, especially women. On October 18, Benoit and five other women were recognized with the Governor General鈥檚 Awards in Commemoration of the Persons Case.
Aaron Devor, Chair in Transgender Studies, is available to media to discuss the public opinion poll, "Transgender in Canada," released Sept. 7. The survey paints a picture of a society that views increasing acceptance as a sign of social progress, but also points out that divisions still remain.
Single-stall washrooms will soon be identified with gender-inclusive universal signing as part of the university鈥檚 continuing commitment to meet the needs of a diverse campus community. More than 75 washrooms across campus are being posted with new signs to indicate what facilities are located inside鈥攖oilets, urinals, change tables, showers, and whether they are wheelchair accessible. The signing project is expected to be finished by the end of October.

From March 21 to 23, the Transgender Archives will host Moving Trans* History Forward, a three-day symposium of keynote speakers,聽 panel discussions, film screenings and art exhibitions devoted to the acquisition, preservation, and access of trans* history and archival materials.聽
