The 番茄社区, with its new Centre for Aerospace Research located near Sidney, BC, is positioning itself at the leading edge of aerospace research and at the forefront of an emerging industry in Western Canada.
This April the UVic Bookstore donated $3,000 to the 番茄社区 Student Society Food Bank, with funds generated by donated student textbooks. The bookstore鈥檚 year-round textbook donation program provides students an opportunity to give back to fellow classmates. 鈥淲e鈥檝e accepted more than 1,700 used books this year,鈥� says Katharine Wright, bookstore manager. 鈥淎ll the funds we receive from these books go directly to supporting on-campus student services.鈥� All donated books are shipped to Better World Books, an organization that redistributes used textbooks for sale online, providing a percentage of the sales back to the Bookstore for student programs, such as the food bank.
