Learning through community service

January 9, 2013 - The Ring

In 2012, UVic offered its first two courses focused on community service learning (CSL). UVic Co-op and Career partnered with the Faculty of Social Sciences to provide a 300-level CSL course called Working in Community (SOSC 300) in the Fall and Spring 2012 semesters. Co-op and Career and the Department of Pacific and Asian Studies also offered a second-year CSL course called Intercultural Service Learning (PAAS 209) last September, which had 15 participants and was supported by the Learning Without Borders Fund offered through UVic鈥檚 Learning and Teaching Centre.

CBIE honours MGB program

January 9, 2013 - The Ring

The Master of Global Business (MGB) program at the Sardul S. Gill Graduate School, Peter B. Gustavson School of Business, has been honoured for the high-quality international education it provides. The Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE) gave the MGB their Outstanding Program Award in November. The award recognizes creativity and high quality in international education. The one-year MGB program, offered since 2010 and open to recent BCom grads, sees students work and live on three continents as they study international business practices, develop leadership skills and learn at least one new language.

New office provides focal point for interdisciplinary programs

The large and complex challenges facing society today don鈥檛 respect the boundaries of traditional academic disciplines. In support of research and education that address such problems, UVic has鈥攆or decades鈥攐ffered a growing number of programs that integrate approaches and insights from different disciplines, providing students with deeper and more holistic understandings of complex issues.
