New podcast aims to break the stigma of dementia

鈥淐all to Mind鈥 is a new podcast series from UVic recorded by people living with Alzheimer鈥檚 disease and other forms of dementia. Hosted and led by Debra Sheets, a nursing professor and researcher with the Institute on Aging and Lifelong Health, the series features intimate audio diaries and conversations about the rewards and challenges of caregiving, the impacts of isolation and finding joy by living in the present, and staying in love when everything else is changing.

Singing to fight the stigma and social isolation of dementia

April 25, 2018 - The Ring

"Voices in Motion" is an intergenerational community choir for persons with dementia, their family caregivers and high school students. It's also a UVic research study looking into how participation in an intergenerational choir might foster social engagement and caregiver well-being, improve quality of life for persons with dementia, and reduce some of the stigma surrounding memory loss.
