Siyad Jama's journey to a BCom degree at UVic's Gustavson School of Business began when he stepped off the plane in Victoria for the first time in 2011. "I had no idea what to expect," he recalls. "It was all new to me鈥擟anada, Victoria, UVic. I knew it was the warmest place in Canada, but coming from Kenya, even that meant something different."

Zwiers joins ranks of world's highly cited researchers

It鈥檚 always gratifying to have data-driven, third party recognition of UVic's global research impact. Thomson Reuters' 2016 list of the world鈥檚 most highly cited researchers includes climate statistician Francis Zwiers, of the Pacific Climate Impacts Consortium, as well as two previously recognized researchers: mechanical engineer Yang Shi and business professor Roy Suddaby.

Intercultural collaborations forge first business PhD

June 3, 2016 - The Ring

鈥淚鈥檝e always been fascinated by how people work across differences,鈥 says Sarah Easter, the Sardul S. Gill Graduate School鈥檚 first PhD alumna. Her recently-defended dissertation stands as testament to this passion: her work explores (among other things) which traits allow individuals to successfully collaborate, despite culturally-based differences. The Greater Victoria Coalition to End Homelessness鈥攃omprised of over forty organizations and associations from different sectors鈥攑rovided the perfect case study for her to research these individuals in action.
