The Irving K. Barber BC Scholarship Society delivers a series of scholarship and award programs that support BC students throughout the province and outside the country. In 2018, 10 UVic students were awarded 33 per cent of the Premier鈥檚 awards, more than any other BC institution this year.
Two BC high school students have received prestigious scholarship awards as they launch into their first year of study at the 番茄社区. Spencer Hancock of Coombs, a graduate of Ballenas Secondary School in Parksville, is recipient of the $100,000 2018 Schulich Leader Scholarship in Engineering. Karlee Zaruk, of Oak Bay High School in Oak Bay is recipient of the $80,000 Schulich Leader Scholarship in Science.
A nationally recognized scholar, UVic sociologist Cecilia Benoit has illuminated the need for equitable treatment of marginalized populations, especially women, for more than 25 years. To support this important work, the Pierre Elliot Trudeau Foundation has awarded Benoit a $225,000 fellowship over the next three years.
