Dr. Megan Egler is a new Postdoctoral Fellow with the Accelerating Community Energy Transformation (ACET) initiative and the Institute for Integrated Energy Systems (IESVic). Alongside Dr. Katya Rhodes, she will be working to understand public perceptions of energy transitions and desirable energy futures within rural and medium-sized communities in Western Canada. This research will inform the design of effective, acceptable, and inclusive policies that advance both climate and justice goals.

Dr. Egler completed her PhD in Natural Resources and Ecological Economics at the University of Vermont and holds an MSc in Food, Agriculture, and Resource Economics from the University of Guelph. Her research, conducted in Alberta, Appalachia, and West Texas, used computational text analysis and qualitative methods to explore how discursive power and material realities shape energy futures within fossil fuel-producing regions. She has consulted on programs and policies dealing with fossil fuel liabilities, major fossil fuel infrastructure, and the redevelopment of inactive fossil fuel and mining sites in Canada and the USA. Dr. Egler has worked with organizations such as the Parkland Institute, the Ecozoic Policy Project, and the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development on justice-oriented projects and reports. She currently sits on the board of the Canadian Society for Ecological Economics as the Director of Research.

Dr. Egler is very excited to join UVic's School of Public Administration and is interested in just transition, climate, and energy policy, and the inclusive design of policies in support of healthy and resilient communities, particularly within historical fossil fuel-producing regions.
