Biography
Yasuko Thanh has lived in Mexico, Germany, and Latin America. Her debut novel, Mysterioius Fragrance of the Yellow Mountains (Hamish Hamilton Canada) won the 2016 Rogers Writers' Trust Fiction Prize, and her short story "Floating Like the Dead" earned her the 2009 Journey Prize. The book Floating Like the Dead was nominated for the Ethel Wilson Fiction Prize, and she has also been a finalist for the David Adams Richards Prize, the Canada Council for the Arts' Future Generations Millennium Prize, and the Hudson Prize. Her stories have been published in numerous literary magazines, including Prairie Fire, Descant, Fireweed, The Fiddlehead, and PRISM International, and her nonfiction has appeared in publications as diverse as SPEAK, Vancouver Review, Island Parent Magazine, and subTerrain. Her memoir Mistakes to Run With was released to acclaim in April 2019 from Penguin Random House Canada.
