Area of expertise
Poetry, interactive narrative, oral storytelling.
Simon Inglis (he/him) graduated from UVic with a BA in Writing in 2024, with a concentration in poetry. His introduction to poetry came through the spoken-word scene, and embraces it as a distinctly sonic form; one that is most alive when experienced aloud.
He has long been fascinated by the deeply interpersonal nature of storytelling, as well as its power as a tool for learning and emotional exploration. He has headed several programs for children and young adults that embraced collaborative storytelling as a means of developing empathy and safely exploring the challenges of neurodivergent youth. He has also worked with a number of Indigenous communities across the lands now known as B.C. on projects relating to their oral histories.
His own work delves into themes of family, generational trauma, masculinity, honesty, and sexuality, often intertwined with experiences of the natural world. He is currently working on a collection of poetry that traces the lives and stories of the men in his family.
