Originally from Mexico, Carmen is a Latina artist with a BA degree in Art History from Centro de Cultura Casa Lamm (Mexico City, 2006) and earned her MFA degree in Theatre Design at the University of British Columbia (2010).
With over 90 design credits, her work has been seen in companies such as: Vancouver Opera, Caravan Farm Theatre, Gateway Theatre, Arts Club Theatre Company, Bard on the Beach Shakespeare Festival, Globe Theatre Regina, Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Citadel Theatre in Edmonton, Electric Company Theatre, Theatre Calgary, Chicago Shakespeare Theater, Milwaukee Rep Theater and Washington Shakespeare Theatre Company.
Carmen has taught at Simon Fraser University and University of British Columbia as a sessional instructor and has participated in numerous programs mentoring emerging artists. With 11 outstanding design nominations, she is the recipient of four Jessie Richardson Theatre Awards and an Applause Musical Ovation Award. She co-curated de Canadian National Exhibit at the Prague Quadrennial of Space and Performance of 2023.
