Brief biography
Anita Bonkowski works both nationally and internationally as a drummer, bassist, composer and arranger. Since earning her graduate degree, she has played numerous festivals, clubs and shows across Canada, the US, Europe and the Caribbean. Besides playing locally with jazz, blues, R&B and show bands, she has backed musicians such as David Foster, The Moody Blues, Sarah McLauchlan, Kenny G, Josh Groban, Johnny Mathis, Englebert Humperdink, and The Canadian Tenors. In addition to having taught at VIU, Anita has been instructing at UVic since 1996, teaching a broad range of topics.
Creative activity
Anita is active as a performer and composer/arranger. Her compositions and arrangements are performed both live and on CBC, NPR and radio stations abroad. She is co-producer, composer and performer for self-produced CDs, as well as being commissioned to write for local and national ensembles. In addition to her own ensembles, she is an active free-lance musician, and has also been a jurist for FACTOR, and the BC Arts Council. Anita has performed across Canada numerous times, and has her 12th Western European tour booked for summer of 2019.
